Politics in The Pub: Democratising The Press And Public Media

Academic, author, advocate and former Senator, Margaret Reynolds, is currently National President of Friends of the ABC, an organisation committed to Australian public broadcasting and media independence. She will assess the current standard of reporting on political debate in the recent federal election and the level of control exerted by a small number of media outlets. Margaret is a strong advocate for civil society having a central role in our democracy so will also contrast aspects of Australian politics which have developed in the last twenty years.

Margaret will be joined, via a Skype interview, by one of the world’s leading independent journalists, Antony Loewenstein. Antony has written for both mainstream and alternative media. His fearless reporting of the abuses of power around the world are well known and greatly respected. He is also author of several ground-breaking books, including Disaster Capitalism, The Blogging Revolution, Profits of Doom and My Israel Question
