Intellectual self-defence

Intellectual self-defence

You’ve probably read this quote before from Noam Chomsky, but it’s worth repeating:

“Citizens of the democratic societies should undertake a course of intellectual self-defence to protect themselves from manipulation and control, and to lay the basis for meaningful democracy.”

It’s good advice, especially in these times of so-called fake news, alternative facts, celebrity journalism, neoliberal hogwash and corporate mumbo jumbo. There are many alternative sites where you don’t get the usual dismal diet of infotainment but instead can learn what’s actually happening on planet earth. If you haven’t already seen these sites, check them out:

What to do?

Read sites of critical inquiry that tell us about how our world is organised and the effects of power; consider a range of counter narratives; and engage in intellectual self-defence!
