PROMOTE EQUALITY FOR A MORE JUST, PEACEFUL AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE!

Predatory capitalism has long flourished by exploiting social and economic divisions. Colonisation, slavery, the exploitation of migrants, and restrictions placed on organized labour have helped ensure the enrichment the few at the expense of the many. Inequalities between indigenous people and settlers, between ethnic and social groups have been a feature of Australian society over the years.

The government is inviting Australians to participate in a pretense of democracy over marriage equality. As equality is the core of Ngara’s vision towards a more just, peaceful and sustainable world, we add our voice to the majority who will say Yes to marriage equality, thereby supporting another important step towards a society built on respect for human rights. As Julian Burnside reminded us during the 2017 Ngara Institute Annual Lecture:

“…every one of us, by seeing the difference between what is right and what is wrong, every one of us can make a difference by doing something.  And if enough of us do something, we can achieve everything.”
